New portal online to help those need shelter during crisis

Singaporeans who are in a position where they need to find a place to sleep during an emergency may use an online platform to connect with others who are willing to lend their homes.

To be activated only during an emergency situation in the country This initiative was first declared by the Ministry of National Development (MND) and the real estate platform Mogul.sg in a statement issued on March 8.

The new portal will let those who require emergency shelter see available residential listings along with the conditions stipulated by the homeowners including the duration of stay and suitability for pets or families.

The statement noted that this could be beneficial during national emergencies when there is an urgent need for temporary housing. For instance, during the Covid-19 pandemic certain Singaporeans graciously offered to host Malaysians who were homeless in Malaysia at the time of the border closure.
